ATADA

We are members of A.T.A.D.A. Inc.  An Association devoted to education and fair practices In The markets of Antique Tribal Art and Artifacts

The Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association was formed in 1988 to represent professional dealers in antique tribal arts, to promote the trade in tribal arts, to educate others in the important and valuable role that collectors have played in preserving tribal arts over the centuries, and to establish ethical standards for the profession including guarantees that would assure our customers and the public that the objects in which we deal are authentic, have good title, and were properly acquired. It is also our goal to enhance our members' awareness of the sensitivities of extant tribal peoples concerning antique objects in the trade that may relate to current religious practices.

Our membership includes many of the leading dealers and collectors in the field, and ATADA is increasingly looked upon as setting the ethical standard for the industry as a whole.  In 1990, ATADA played a major role in rewriting key definitions for the Native American Graves Repatriation Act.  Since then, ATADA has participated in several key events concerning cultural and archaeological properties as we continue to keep current in these areas.  As dealers we have in common many of the concerns of collectors and museums around the world.  We share a serious interest and respect for the tribal cultures that produce these magnificent works, from an academic , cultural aesthetic and humanitarian standpoint, and we believe that our appreciation of these cultures is greatly enhanced through living with objects that we collect.
